Brett Favre Retires-Why The Green Bay Packers Will Win The N

Postby Kelly » Sat 07 Aug 2010, 21:34

According to reports, quarterback Brett Favre has declared his plans to retire for the third time in his 19-year career. NFL jerseys
Favre spent the past season starting for the Minnesota Vikings, leading them to a 12-4 record. At the age of 40 he had arguably his best statistical year, throwing for 33 TD and 4,202 yards.
The team signed Favre with the belief that he would be the final piece to the puzzle and would take their Superbowl caliber squad to the big game. Unfortunately, his supposed final pass in the NFL was an interception to Tracy Porter that ended the Vikings’ aspirations.
Now he has once again stuck a dagger in their hopes and dreams.
Even with the three-time MVP in the mix, I felt that the division-rival Green Bay Packers would be breathing down their necks in the NFC North race. mbt shoes
If he does retire, I firmly believe the Vikings are out of that race.
Last season we were all witness of Favre’s mystical effect. His quick decision making skills helped the offensive line surrender nine less sacks than the season before; he helped develop Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Bernard Berrian into dynamic play makers; and he was an overall integral key to their success.
Tavaris Jackson, who’s posted a career passer rating of 77.9, is now set to take over the starting role in Minnesota. Sure he’s won ten games for them before and stated that Favre has helped him grow as a player, but he still hasn’t proven to be a legitimate franchise quarterback and won’t have the same impact as Favre did.
Therefore, in my mind, Brett Favre’s retirement gives his old team, the Green Bay Packers, the golden key to the division. jordan shoes
The Vikings already had their share of issues to deal with as Adrian Peterson proved his fumbling issues could prevent him from being the dependable force down the stretch.
Moreover, they have pressing voids in the secondary that have yet to be filled, and adding the quarterback situation to the list would be a major setback.
Meanwhile, the Packers have no major holes on their roster. On offense, they have a franchise quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, a plethora of receivers, a solid running back, and a revamped offensive line. Their defense is also one of the league’s best, ranking second in overall yards allowed.
Furthermore, a primary reason the Vikings beat the Packers in their two battles last season was due to the fact that Favre threw for 515 yards and 7 TD. Without him I expect the outcome to be much different. hair straightener
That said, barring any major setbacks, I expect the Packers to claim the division crown and possibly be potential Super Bowl contenders.
Of course, we don’t know for sure if this isn’t merely another smoke screen in the prolonged Favre saga. If not, I wish Favre the best of luck moving forward with the remainder of his post-NFL life. He is and will always be one of my most admired athletes. cheap NFL jerseys

Ex-HP CEO Mark Hurd settled with contractor

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co's former chief executive officer Mark Hurd has reached a legal settlement with the woman who accused him of sexual harassment, and she has also agreed to release HP from legal claims, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The world's No. 1 computer maker stunned Wall Street and Silicon Valley on Friday by announcing Hurd's resignation, accusing him of falsifying expense reports to conceal a "close personal relationship" with a female contractor.
The unidentified woman told HP's board in June that Hurd had sexually harassed her, but an investigation found no violation of the company's sexual harassment policy, HP said.
The contractor, who did marketing work for HP from 2007 to 2009, did not have sexual relations with Hurd, according to her lawyer Gloria Allred, a high-profile attorney who often works with celebrity clients. ed hardy clothing
"Mark has settled the matter with the woman," said one source who was briefed on the matter. This person said the settlement included a payment, but the amount was not disclosed.
Another source with knowledge of the matter said HP was given a "release" by the contractor, and that the company had not paid her any money. This person also said Hurd had settled the matter. Both sources spoke on condition of anonymity.
Allred declined to comment.
According to sources, the contractor helped plan, market and host events for the office of the CEO. She made the sexual harassment charges on June 29 in a letter addressed to Hurd that came to his office.
The board then ordered an investigation, which found inaccurate expense reports filed by Hurd or on his behalf, and instances where the contractor received compensation for no legitimate business purpose, HP has said. jordan shoes
DISPUTED EVENTS
HP said Hurd's actions, while trivial in financial terms, represented a systematic violation of the company's trust and ethical standards -- serious enough to oust a charismatic and widely admired executive credited with resuscitating HP.
Hurd himself, who is 53 and married with two children, said in a statement on Friday that he had not lived up to his own standards of integrity. He could not be reached for comment.
The details surrounding Hurd's expense account improprieties are in dispute.
Some close to HP's board have portrayed Hurd's various meetings with the contractor as highly unusual for the CEO of a $100 billion company. But others close to Hurd's camp say the two were "business acquaintances" whose meetings were completely above board, and that Hurd never tried to conceal them. hair straightener
According to sources, the woman was interviewed twice by Hurd, in August and September of 2007, prior to being hired.
The first time was in Los Angeles. For the second interview, the woman was flown to Denver, where Hurd was staying, and the two dined together.
After she was hired, the contractor worked at more than a dozen events in a number of different locales, some overseas. After these events, she often had dinner with Hurd.
However, the expenses submitted by Hurd in some instances did not reflect her being there. Instead, they stated that he dined alone, or in some cases with his bodyguard, said one of the sources familiar with HP's investigation.
This person said on "a couple" of occasions, the contractor was paid fees and travel expenses to attend an event where none was held, but at a location where Hurd was staying.
A source familiar with Hurd's account of the situation, said there were expense irregularities, in part because Hurd's expenses were filed by his assistant, who did not necessarily know who was in attendance at a certain meal.
This person maintained that the woman did sometimes appear on expense reports, and sometimes Hurd paid for the meals himself, if no business was discussed.
On one occasion, the woman was paid for an event that never took place because Hurd got sick and the event was canceled at the last minute, this source said.
Hurd offered to reimburse the company for the expenses, which amounted to no more than $20,000 over a two-year period, the source said.
News of Hurd's resignation sent HP shares plunging 10 percent as he was one of the most respected executives in Silicon Valley. Chief Financial Officer Cathie Lesjak will take over while HP looks for a permanent CEO. nfl jerseys
Hurd, who received nearly $100 million in compensation over the past three years, will get a severance payment of $12.2 million from HP.

SAN FRANCISCO | Sat Aug 7, 2010 7:32pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Mark Papermaster, the Apple executive in charge of iPhone engineering, has left the company weeks after the "Antennagate" controversy over complaints of poor reception on the company's latest smartphone.
Apple spokesman Steve Dowling confirmed Papermaster's exit and said Bob Mansfield is assuming his responsibilities. Dowling declined to provide a reason for the departure of the former IBM senior executive. mbt shoes
The news was first reported by the New York Times.
Apple released the iPhone 4 in June and it was an instant hit with consumers. But reports spread about bad reception when the device was held a certain way, and analysts warned that the company's reputation for quality was under threat. ed hardy clothing
The issue snowballed into a publicity crisis and Apple was forced to call a press conference to tackle the matter. Apple CEO Steve Jobs maintained there was nothing wrong with the iPhone 4, and that the reception problem was one shared by other smartphones.
Papermaster was not at the press conference on July 16. Mansfield, who will take over for him, now oversees Macintosh hardware engineering. louboutin shoes
"Mr. Mansfield already manages groups that create many of the key technologies for the iPhone and iPod touch, including the A4 chip, Retina display and touch screens," Dowling said.
Apple hired Papermaster in November of 2008, luring him away from IBM, where he had worked for 25 years. jordan shoes
IBM sued Papermaster after his departure, saying he agreed to avoid working for any competitor for a year.
A federal court initially barred Papermaster from working for Apple, but the lawsuit was eventually resolved and he began work for Apple in April of 2009.

Stars committed to Team USA in 2012 .or are they.

Postby Kelly » Fri 20 Aug 2010, 18:51

Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and LeBron James were all on hand Thursday.MBT shoes
How perfect that the declarations came at Radio City Music Hall, because this was pure theater.
Carmelo Anthony said last Thursday while the current U.S. roster scrimmaged at the New York landmark that he wants to be on the next U.S. roster and Chris Paul committed the same night to likewise returning to the Team USA fold for the London Olympics, and we can certainly believe the dedication.
Unless ...
Unless, just maybe, such statements have been proven meaningless these last few weeks and especially these last few days, as the Americans held a mini-camp in Las Vegas and worked out and played exhibitions in Manhattan and jetted to Europe for a few more exhibitions before the world championships begin Aug. 28 in Turkey with a grand total of zero returnees from the 2008 team that won Olympic gold.

You know, the same 2008 team that wrapped itself in the flag in Beijing and seemed giddy about the chance to re-establish basketball dominance for USA Basketball and -- wait for it -- practically pulled a collective hammy in the rush to commit themselves for another ride. Jerry Colangelo, the managing director then and now, said four or five members of the 12-man roster in China quickly told him in the post-gold glow that they wanted to play for the U.S. again, then others gave Colangelo the same message at All-Star weekend 2009.
It was the hangover talking.ed hardy clothing
The 2008 roster: Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Jason Kidd, Paul, Tayshaun Prince, Michael Redd, Dwyane Wade, Deron Williams.
The 2010 roster, after all: Chauncey Billups, Tyson Chandler, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, Andre Igoudala, Kevin Love, Lamar Odom, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, with one more cut due by Aug. 26.
So much for lasting commitments. There were surely injury issues for some, including Paul and his knee and Bryant with various problems that haunted him through a chunk of the playoffs. And there is always an age-related turnover, in this case with Kidd and Redd (who is hurt anyway).
But everybody?Christian Louboutin shoes
That's an awful lot of guys who needed to clean their sock drawer this summer.
Anthony said as recently as 11 months ago that he was in, telling AOL FanHouse that the majority of the team from Beijing '08 would "most likely" be in Turkey, that he expected James to play at the world championships, and that "Everybody wanted to see if everybody wanted to come back, so, once that was established, it was easy." But Anthony's summer 2010 got too busy because of his July 10 marriage, others had a crazy few months because of free agency that lasted a few weeks, and things just came up.

It's not just the United States. The bottom has dropped out of the world championships on a lot of fronts. Pau Gasol declined to play for Spain, the biggest threat to dethrone Team USA. Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman decided against reprising Beijing roles with Germany, and other stars are sitting out because of injury or just because. No other group of players boasted so proudly, though, of reclaiming a special place on the victory stand at the 2008 Games and pledging to keep the forward momentum going.jordan shoes
Maybe some vacationers will fall back on semantics -- the commitment was for the Olympics, not the world championships. And London '12 will almost certainly attract more stars, because the Summer Games are much bigger in the United States, because there will be a lot more pressure from sponsors to be on that global stage, and because travel to England doesn't sound as formidable as Turkey.
A lot of the mega-stars should be back for the next Olympics, along with the new ones that emerge in the meantime as everyone gets to watch whether Colangelo really means it when he says dedication to the program will play a role in determining the London roster. Anthony will be there. For sure. No question.
"Of course," he said in an interview with the Associated Press at the Radio City event last week. "I'm locked in. I'm committed."GHD Hair Straightener
